About The Position

Highline Academy Northeast is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant for the 1st Grade for the 2026-2027 school year. Our mission is to foster a diverse community of youths and adults striving together for academic, personal, and civic excellence, with a vision of creating inclusive excellence in public education. Teaching Assistants are the heart of our organization, expected to be caring about the whole child, strong and nurturing in classroom management, and excellent collaborators with teammates and families. We seek individuals with good communication skills, a dedication to making a difference for each child, and a growth mindset. The position is a year-round salary position, with a work year comprising 175 student contact days and additional professional development and parent conference days, totaling 186 days. Teaching Assistants are expected to be on campus from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm daily, and until 4:30 pm on Fridays for early release student days followed by teacher PD or planning meetings. A week of professional development is also included each summer before school begins.

Requirements

High School Degree or Equivalent
Experience appropriate to the assignment
Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the Highline mission
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Be able to walk quickly, bend, kneel, crouch, sit, stand, grab or hold with one or both hands.
To be able to lift up to 40lbs without difficulty
To maintain appropriate demeanor and professional classroom behavior when working with children and adults
The ability to sit for extended periods during group training

Seek out more information and support from other staff members, as needed.
Be welcoming and supportive of families and work to support a thriving home to school connection for our students.
Attend all professional development as assigned by their principal and participate with respect and attention.
