About The Position

Matchbook Learning is a mission-driven, non-profit charter network based in Indianapolis, dedicated to transforming education through innovation, personalization, and strong community. We currently operate two schools: Matchbook Learning at Wendell Phillips School 63 (K–8) and The Match High School and Career Center (growing to serve grades 9–11 by Fall 2026). Our mission is to personalize learning within a restorative community, building resilience, excellence, and real-world readiness for every student. We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic First Grade Teacher to join our Elementary Team at Wendell Phillips School 63. First grade is a critical year for building strong reading, writing, and math foundations. This role is ideal for an educator who is passionate about early literacy development, structured, engaging instruction, and supporting students as they transition into more independent learning. You will play a key role in helping students develop confidence, foundational skills, and a love of learning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
  • Valid teaching license (Indiana or transferable out-of-state license)

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons in reading, writing, and math
  • Use data to inform instruction and address learning gaps
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners
  • Establish a structured, positive, and inclusive classroom culture
  • Implement strong classroom management systems
  • Monitor student progress through ongoing assessments
  • Provide clear feedback to students and families
  • Partner with colleagues, interventionists, and leadership
  • Maintain strong communication with families through conferences and ParentSquare
  • Participate in coaching, professional development, and team collaboration
  • Continuously refine instructional practices
