About The Position

This job description outlines the role of an Instructional Assistant for a 1st Grade General Education class at Fall Creek Elementary School. The position reports to the Principal and works under the supervision of the classroom teacher. The role requires effective communication, the ability to assist with clerical duties, and to work collaboratively with staff and students. Responsibilities include preparing the classroom, distributing materials, instructing students under supervision, maintaining classroom order, assisting with bulletin boards, supervising students in various settings, and collecting academic/behavioral data. The position also emphasizes professional conduct, including nurturing positive relationships, respecting colleagues, supporting corporate decisions, and handling sensitive issues tactfully and confidentially.

Requirements

  • An associate of arts degree
  • Two years of college (48 credit hours)
  • Pass the ParaPro exam (state assessment test for knowledge of an ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing and math)

Responsibilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively with student and other staff members.
  • Ability to proficiently aid teacher in the performance of clerical duties.
  • Ability to work well with staff and students in her/his charge.
  • Aid teacher in preparing classroom for school.
  • Help prepare and distribute lesson materials.
  • Instruct students under teacher supervision.
  • Keep classroom neat and orderly.
  • Aid teacher in arranging bulletin boards.
  • Supervise cafeteria, playground, etc. under teacher supervision.
  • Assist with all clerical duties, i.e., student records, copying, etc.
  • Aid in preparing the classroom for the close of school.
  • Maintain effective communication with teacher.
  • Work with groups of students inside and/or outside the classroom.
  • Assess abilities and assist with the collection of academic/behavioral data of students.
  • Any other related duties as may be assigned by the building principal.
  • Nurture a positive relationship with super-ordinates, subordinates and peers.
  • Demonstrate respect for super-ordinates, subordinates and peers.
  • Support corporation decisions and direction relative to matters of policy and administrative directives.
