About The Position

Challenge Preparatory Charter School (Challenge Prep) is seeking dedicated 1st-grade General Education Teachers for the K-5 program for the 26-27 school year. Since 2010, Challenge Prep has served over 1200 students from Kindergarten to 12th grade across three sites in Far Rockaway, Queens. Our mission is to prepare students for academic excellence, mastery of NY State Learning Standards, and career aspirations. We foster intellectual, aesthetic, social, emotional, and ethical development, preparing students to be responsible 21st-century citizens through a rigorous, technology-infused, and supportive program. Collaboration across all sites is expected to support all scholars. As a General Education Teacher, you will deliver exceptional instruction, assess scholar growth, and provide academic and cultural support. This position reports to the principal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • NYS certification preferred
  • Highly motivated to teach students from underserved areas and devoted to closing the achievement gap
  • The ability to create a classroom setting where students of every academic level experience enjoyment, engagement, and enthusiasm in their learning
  • Strong teamwork ethic
  • Ability to use data to drive instruction

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Teaching experience in an urban school setting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional instruction and assess scholar growth.
  • Provide academic and cultural support to students.
  • Plan for students of all ability levels, including English Language Learners and students with disabilities, to achieve academic mastery.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to write unit plans and interim assessments.
  • Share teaching strategies, visit peer classrooms, and analyze student data.
  • Develop best practice pedagogy that supports literacy and critical thinking skills across all subject areas.
  • Employ a variety of collaborative team-teaching models for ELL students and special needs students.
  • Apply data gathered through formative and summative assessments to guide instructional plans.
  • Develop an individual growth plan, which includes professional goals and objectives in collaboration with the Principal and/or Assistant Principal.
  • Utilize technology, including a parent/student portal and school website, to provide regular written updates and/or grades.
  • Participate in after-school and/or Saturday tutoring, sports, enrichment, arts, and family programs.
  • Participate in in-house committees of special programs.
  • Participate in professional development such as inquiry work, intervisitations, common planning, and collaborative conversation.
