About The Position

As a Pipefitter at Colonna’s Shipyard, Inc., you will be responsible for installing, assembling, fabricating, maintaining, testing, and repairing piping systems aboard ships and within shipyard facilities. This role requires a high level of skill in blueprint interpretation, joining, and pipefitting to ensure that all piping systems meet industry standards and project specifications. The position is located onsite in Norfolk, VA and will often require hours beyond a standard work week with flexible schedule availability to support production/operations. Position may require limited travel.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 5 years of experience working as a pipefitter, preferably in a shipyard or marine construction environment; or have graduated from a registered apprenticeship program relevant to the trade.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in pipefitting, brazing, and blueprint interpretation.
  • Strong understanding of piping systems and their components.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in torch use and burning techniques.
  • Must be able to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Must be able to lift heavy materials, work at heights, and operate in confined spaces.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous technical training highly preferred.
  • Relevant certifications in pipefitting, welding, or related fields are preferred.
  • Previous experience tack welding is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Cut, thread, bend, and join pipes to required angles and dimensions using various tools and equipment.
  • Accurately read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine the layout and assembly of piping systems.
  • Assemble and install piping systems, supports, and related equipment in compliance with project specifications and safety standards.
  • Conduct pressure tests and maintenance inspections to ensure the integrity and functionality of piping systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on existing piping systems to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Select and evaluate materials for piping systems, ensuring suitability and quality for specific tasks and projects.
  • Utilize a range of techniques, including brazing, to effectively join piping systems.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets industry standards and project specifications, making necessary adjustments as needed.
  • Collaborate with other tradespeople and departments to complete projects within specified timelines.
  • Conduct inspections and quality checks to verify adherence to standards and regulations.
  • Effectively perform work on multiple projects concurrently, demonstrating the ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities successfully.
  • Mentor department employees and other assigned crew members, providing support and training as needed.
