About The Position

As a 12:1:1 Inclusive Learning Teacher with Scholars Academies you will be student-facing the majority of the day with a self-contained class of students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grade. The class will be a “bridge” class where students are grouped based on academic needs though each student will have their own specific goals. You will work alongside and manage an Assistant Teacher and Paraprofessional(s) and deliver content and instruction together to all students in your class. You will collaborate closely with grade teams and the instructional leadership team to internalize and develop curriculum; provide high-quality instruction; track and measure student progress, including managing IEPs of scholars; create a positive classroom and school culture, and to engage in reflection and continuous improvement. As a team we will work together to prepare students with the skills, strength of character, and emotional well-being to excel academically, lead in their communities, and realize their best possible selves.

Requirements

You have a minimum of three-year’s experience as a lead classroom or special education teacher (self-contained 12:1:1 setting highly preferred).
You have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher, and hold a New York State teaching certification for teaching Students With Disabilities (required).
You hold yourself to high professional and ethical standards.
You have experience working closely with students with specific intellectual and behavioral needs.
You believe that every student can and will learn when provided with a quality education, which involves creating developmentally appropriate curriculum and learning opportunities aligned to state standards.
You have experience leading centers-based learning, including creating independent task boxes.
You have demonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of traditionally at-risk students.
You are willing to be flexible in your role and adapt to school and student needs.
You are committed to continuous improvement and learning through professional development.

Nice To Haves

You have the ability to speak, write, and understand Spanish fluently (preferred).
You have experience writing and managing IEPs and Behavior Interventions Plans (experience with Applied Behavior Analysis and/or CPI is highly preferred).
You have experience implementing Life Skills Instruction and Community Based Education.
