About The Position

As a 1:1 Paraprofessional with Phalen Leadership Academies, you will work with individual and/or small groups of scholars under the supervision of a certified teacher. You will do this by following educational and behavioral plans and modeling appropriate behaviors and interactions with students and staff. During non-classroom times, you may function in other support capacities (learning labs, hallway monitoring, lunch duty, etc.) and then implement academic curriculum during designated blocks of time.

Requirements

  • A passion for working with students and families in under-served communities.
  • 1+ years' experience working with children in an educational setting.
  • Associate degree in Education or 60 semester hours of college strongly preferred; high school diploma or equivalent (required) or ETS Parapro Assessment (a passing score of 460 is required).
  • Analytical ability to plan individual and group activities that stimulate growth in scholars.
  • Prior experience with small group instruction preferred.
  • Interpersonal skills are necessary to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents/guardians, and other staff.
  • An aspiring educator.
  • Great with building relationships among scholars and staff.
  • Able to provide academics and behavioral support while modeling PLA's core values.
  • Dedicated to ensuring every scholar has access to a high-quality education.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the facilitator and classroom teachers.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans for the students and monitor their progress.
  • Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom.
  • Work with other professionals, such as speech therapist, social worker, occupational and physical therapists.
  • Assist building level SPED Department with maintaining student records.
  • Support students with behavior concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skills.
  • Assist in the preparation and display of student work.
  • Assist SPED teacher with preparing materials for students.
