About The Position

The Reynoldsburg City Schools’ 1:1 Specialized Paraprofessional provides dedicated, individualized support to a specific student with intensive academic, behavioral, or medical needs. Under the guidance of licensed teachers, Intervention Specialists, and/or BCBAs, the 1:1 Paraprofessional ensures student safety across all settings (including classroom, school grounds, and bus transit), implements individualized academic and behavioral interventions (IEP/BIP), collects data on progress, and facilitates the student’s inclusion in the school community while promoting independence and self-advocacy.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent.
Valid State of Ohio Educational Aide Permit.
A valid ESEA (Highly Qualified) credential (requires Associate Degree, 48+ semester hours, or a passing score of 456+ on the ParaPro Assessment within 60 days of hire or transfer).
Successful completion of BCI & FBI criminal background checks as required by Ohio law.
Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and special education best practices.
Knowledge of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
Knowledge of Ohio school discipline, restraint, and seclusion regulations (OAC 3301-35-15).
Knowledge of Student confidentiality requirements (FERPA/HIPAA).
Knowledge of Procedures for supporting students with behavioral, medical, personal care, or transportation support needs.
Skilled in Conflict resolution and behavioral de-escalation.
Skilled in Observing, documenting, and reporting student behavior accurately.
Skilled in Effective communication with students, staff, transportation personnel, and families.
Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
Ability to supervise students effectively in 1:1, structured, alternative, medically intensive, or school transportation environments.
Ability to respond calmly and professionally to challenging behaviors.
Ability to support students with diverse physical, emotional, and intellectual needs under the direction of licensed staff.
Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, students, bus drivers, and families to implement individualized support plans.

Nice To Haves

Experience supporting students with behavioral, social-emotional, or special education needs.
Experience working in alternative learning environments, behavior rooms, or structured support settings.
Current certification in a state-approved crisis management system (e.g., CPI, Safety-Care, PCM).
Credentials such as Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or Direct Support Professional (DSP).

Responsibilities

Provides constant 1:1 supervision and support to the assigned student throughout the school day, including transitions, lunch, electives, specials, and bus transportation to and from school as assigned.
Implements the student’s IEP and BIP with high fidelity, under the supervision of licensed staff.
Collects and records precise, student-specific behavioral and academic data (frequency, duration, ABC data) to assist the BCBA or Intervention Specialist in monitoring progress.
Scaffolds, modifies, and adapts classroom assignments in real time to meet the student’s specific learning, sensory, and behavioral needs.
Accompanies assigned student on daily bus routes to and from school as needed, ensuring student safety, mobility support, behavioral intervention, and specialized care during transit.
Maintains continuous line-of-sight or proximity as required by the student’s safety plan and transportation directives.
Intervenes during behavioral crises using approved non-violent de-escalation strategies to protect the student and others.
Acts as the primary support during emergency drills and transportation emergencies, ensuring the student understands and follows safety procedures.
Assists the student with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including toileting, feeding, hygiene, and diapering, ensuring safety and dignity.
Operates and maintains the student’s adaptive or specialized equipment (e.g., communication devices, wheelchairs, specialized bus harnesses/restraints, sensory tools).
Monitors for medical triggers, behavioral precursors, or other individualized concerns during instruction and transit, immediately notifying licensed staff or the school nurse.
