About The Position

St. Brendan School is seeking a 1:1 Instructional Assistant to support a student with developmental and learning differences. The role involves helping the student stay engaged in their learning and providing guidance that fosters spiritual, academic, and social growth. This position will work collaboratively with a team including intervention staff, teaching staff, and parents to reinforce strategies and promote student success. The assistant will also communicate with the teacher and intervention specialist regarding scheduling and student needs, encourage the use of technology, and foster a respectful learning atmosphere. The job summary indicates that under the direct supervision of the teacher, this position provides support to the teacher and assists in planning and implementing lesson plans, incorporating all component plans, and leading large and small groups of students. It also involves performing clerical/receptionist duties and other assigned tasks, using personal judgment in carrying out routine duties and responsibilities.

Requirements

Must hold valid Ohio Educational Aide Permit or be able to obtain one
Experience working with students in small group, resource, and/or inclusion settings preferred
Must be willing to work collaboratively with teachers to provide support services to students
Current satisfactory FBI and BCI background checks
Have attended or be willing to attend a VIRTUS Protecting God's Children training
Compliance with FBI and BCI&I background checks and completion of Protecting God's Children program.
Ability to communicate effectively and the understanding of the Catholic perspective
Ability to multi-task and establish priorities
High level of integrity and professionalism
Ability to maintain flexible attitude and approach towards assignments and successfully operate under appropriate guidelines
Light typing, filing and proof reading skills
Excellent communication skills and knowledge of office equipment.
Knowledge of Microsoft software applications (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, write short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to effectively communicate to customers, parents, and other visitors to the school.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to use U.S. standards of currency and measurement.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
The ability to maintain all information in a highly confidential manner.

Responsibilities

Support student growth by working collaboratively with the team - intervention staff, teaching staff, and parents
Reinforce strategies implemented by the classroom teacher and intervention specialist to promote student success
Communicate with the teacher and intervention specialist regarding scheduling, student concerns, and needs
Familiarize and encourage students to use Technology presented by the teacher
Encourage a respectful atmosphere where learning can occur
Assist faculty in the context of classroom instruction, small group/individual tutoring, practice and drill.
Provide support in all areas of the classroom maintaining a clean, safe, and cheerful environment.
Develop and maintain a positive relationship with administration, the students, their families, and volunteers; ensure that all feel welcome, and receive on-the-job training and communicate with parents on a regular basis.
Assist Teacher in completing all required reports and distributing them to the appropriate people at the appropriate time; and assist in maintaining up-to-date and accurate files for all students, safeguarding privacy of records and confidential information.
Eat and interact with students at meal times, serving as an appropriate role model to the students.
Be familiar with, and perform duties, according to established policies, procedures, and regulations as assigned/directed.
Performing supervisory duties as assigned.
Maintain appropriate and accurate records.
Assist Teacher with various projects as requested.
Assisting in the production of educational materials.
Performing necessary clerical tasks; communication and interface.
Provide support in keeping a current inventory, including all supplies and equipment, and ordering supplies in advance to avoid unnecessary shortages.
Ensure that all classroom equipment is operational.
