This helps you understand whether you’ll be coordinating early-phase clinical trials, observational studies, behavioral research, or a mix. High volume means you’re juggling; low volume means studies are more in-depth. Both can be great, but they’re different experiences.
”Who would I be working with most closely, and what’s the working relationship like between the coordinators and the research teams?”
This is about culture and collaboration. Are coordinators respected as project managers or treated as administrative support? Are PIs collaborative or siloed? Are there regular team meetings or is it more independent? You’ll spend a lot of time with these people.
”What were the reasons the last person in this role left, or why is this position open?”
This is fair to ask and the answer is revealing. If the last coordinator got promoted, that’s a good sign. If they left because of poor management or unclear expectations, that’s good information to have going in.
