The Youth Independent Living Specialist is responsible for assessing the need for independent living skills training among students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and 704 Plans. They develop and deliver skills training to groups of students including budgeting, cooking, personal hygiene, pre-employment skills, time management and more as need indicates. They collaborate with educators, families, and community resources and train these students to advocate for themselves which includes setting goals in their individual IEP's toward post-secondary transitions to employment and/or education/technical training. about sil: Services for Independent Living (SIL) is a non-profit Center for Independent Living dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities, seniors, and veterans to achieve greater independence and quality of life.
