About The Position

The Multnomah Athletic Club is seeking a Youth Programs Afternoon Attendant who is passionate about fostering creativity, learning, and fun in young children. This is a part-time, fully on-site role Monday through Friday from 1:30pm – 6:00pm. This position is part time with the opportunity to get up to 40 hours depending on availability outside of the scheduled shift times and the interest in working in other programming.

Requirements

  • Child Care Experience: Previous experience working with children in a recreational or educational setting preferred.
  • Certifications: CPR, First Aid, and Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect training (or obtain within 90 days of hire).
  • Interpersonal Skills: Competence, sound judgment, and self-control in working with children and parents. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and members.
  • Additional Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, ability to perform essential job functions including frequent lifting, carrying, standing, walking, sitting, lift and carry children weighing up to 60 lbs., ability to set up, clean, and put away furnishings and equipment which include play structures and large bouncy houses, ability to work in areas exposed to loud noises on a routine basis, ability to work occasional evening and weekend events.

Responsibilities

  • Positive Interaction: Greet parents, children, and guests with a friendly and upbeat attitude. Establish and maintain positive relationships with families, staff, and children.
  • Child Care: Help children transition into care, managing separations in a calm and comforting manner. Attend to children’s toileting, diapering, and hygiene needs as required.
  • Activity Facilitation: Lead and engage children in a variety of fun and educational activities, including games, art projects, storytelling, and imaginary play. Monitor individual and group play, ensuring safety and enjoyment.
  • Behavior Management: Maintain positive behavior among children by redirecting misbehavior or moving children to a safe, quiet area if necessary.
  • Record Keeping: Update children’s records as needed and ensure that all information is accurately maintained.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate with other staff members and communicate effectively with parents and children to create a supportive environment for all.
