About The Position

The Youth Peer Recovery Coach (Youth Recovery Coach) is responsible for supporting youth aged 13-19 who self-identify as seeking to begin, maintain, and improve on their recovery. The Youth Recovery Coach promotes recovery through sharing experience and hope as a peer; helps remove barriers; serves as a mentor; connects Recoverees with resources and additional recovery support services; and encourages them in their journey. The Youth Recovery Coach supports multiple pathways to recovery and meets with youth both individually and in group settings. The Youth Recovery Coach authentically connects with youth and young adults through their own lived experience.

Requirements

  • Registration as a Peer Recovery Coach in Maine and ability to complete the CCAR Recovery Coach Academy for Young People
  • Lived experience with addiction and recovery as a young person, with a genuine passion for supporting youth in recovery
  • Strong ability to build rapport with youth using a peer-based, person-centered approach that honors multiple pathways of recovery
  • Demonstrated advocacy skills and knowledge of age-appropriate community resources, services, and the local recovery community
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; warm, approachable, and effective with diverse populations
  • Ability to work both collaboratively with staff and partners and independently in community-based, offsite, and virtual settings
  • Comfort with documentation, data collection, and basic technology, including electronic record systems and virtual platforms
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills; flexibility to adapt to changing needs, including evenings or weekends as required
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and high ethical standards in accordance with PRCC and Peer Recovery Coach Codes of Ethics
  • High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license and ability to drive; ability to pass required background checks

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual Youth Recovery Coaching to young people who are seeking and/or in recovery, in person, virtually, or on the phone
  • Facilitate Youth Recovery Coaching Groups at offsite community partner locations
  • Support recoverees in connecting to age-appropriate treatment, housing, employment, medical and behavioral health services, and other community resources
  • Collaborate with recoverees to develop recovery goals and support progress toward achieving and maintaining recovery
  • Identify barriers to successful recovery and advocate alongside recoverees to help address unmet needs
  • Provide education about addiction and encourage participation in additional recovery supports, including mutual aid groups, wellness activities, and prosocial opportunities
  • Participate in Coachervision at least once per month and engage in supervision for support, guidance in challenging situations, and professional growth
  • Follow PRCC protocols to ensure ongoing follow-up and maintain quality assurance standards
  • Utilize PRCC’s electronic record system to document services, maintain activity logs, and record recoveree support services
