About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Youth & Family Coordinator is responsible for the effective operation of some elements of assigned departments. Responsibility may include but are not limited to: program operation, program development and growth, participant satisfaction, participant and member retention and safety, community collaborations, and staff supervision. The Program Coordinator is accountable for delivering exceptional and outstanding programs and service to YMCA members and participants in partnership with a larger team.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year job related experience.
  • Must have experience working with children of diverse ages and cultures.
  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR Pro.
  • Required trainings within 30 days of hire: Pulse Access, Keeping your YMCA Safe, The Y & You: New Employee Orientation, I Hear You Service with Care, Advancing Equity, Y’s Way to Service & Engagement, Into to Y’s Cause & Culture, Foundations, Listen First, Prasedium: Preventing Bullying, and Behavior Management.
  • Must complete Service Standards training within 60 days of hire.
  • Must complete 5 hours of additional training annually (can be from ILead, Playworks, webinars all surrounding child based learning).
  • Must have earned 10 continuing education credits.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work independently and with minimal supervision. Organized and detail oriented.
  • Adept computer skills in Office 365.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively.
  • Must have high level of alertness, concentration, and initiative.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; occasionally stoop/bend.
  • Ability to tolerate a moderate to occasionally loud work environment.
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Perform office work as needed such as filing, copying, record keeping, and payroll completion. Ensure that all necessary paperwork and forms are accurately completed.
  • Support the Director in training and supervising assigned program staff and volunteers and ensure consistent delivery of programming and procedures.
  • Provide a nurturing atmosphere and safety for all program participants.
  • Support successful onboarding of new children and families to programs.
  • Maintain appropriate teacher to student ratios during programming.
  • Monitor purchase and maintain necessary equipment through scheduled and preventative maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with parents and respond to all inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Adheres to the organization’s policies and procedures.
  • Provides shift supervision while working 80% of time as direct service.
  • Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, and development of team members.
  • Conducts team member feedback, corrective actions, and evaluations.
  • Schedules and processes payroll functions.
  • Supports campaign efforts and donor engagement in the community and team members.
  • Models relationship building in all interactions through Listen First.
  • Create a dynamic and engaging environment by leading children in unplanned but structured activities that promote creativity, collaboration, and fun.
  • Adapt to the group's needs and interests while ensuring activities align with program goals and maintain a safe and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Contribute to the planning, development, and implementation of youth-focused events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
