About The Position

The Youth Apprentice High school student will perform regular schoolwork, obtain classroom training through appropriate/assigned college per county and location. Students will perform non-clinical work at an assigned department within Froedtert Health. Following established policies and procedures, under the direct supervision of a department mentor will provide basic clerical, and technical support to assist in planning for patients’ care, comfort, and safety. This role is instrumental in helping the patient feel at ease while collaborating with the team members throughout the patient's visit. Moves patients and hospital equipment, including but not limited to oxygen tanks, specimens, and hospital beds throughout Froedtert Hospital. Maintains obstruction-free corridors and disinfects hospital equipment per regulations. May be required to monitor designated entrances, provide directions to patients and family members, access hospital systems, and answer telephones to provide general information to staff and patients. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be a rising Junior and Senior (current sophomore and current junior) High School student
  • Must carry at least a 2.0 G.P.A
  • Must be under 18 years old.
  • Must be approved by the County Public Schools, local participating Colleges, and Froedtert Health (all participating locations)
  • This is a cooperative program funded through PNC Bank and sponsored by participating Public High Schools, local Colleges, and Froedtert Health

Responsibilities

  • Diligently works with mentor to fulfill program requirements and document learning outcomes on forms provided by program coordinator.
  • Always observes, learns, and records required necessary information on a timely basis.
  • Always completes assignments promptly and thoroughly.
  • Continuously keeps mentor informed of problems encountered in any work area.
  • Always complies with dress code requirements of Froedtert Health and department assigned.
  • Always arrives in the department promptly, prepared for work.
  • Alongside mentor, will ensure optimal patient flow and to meet customer service standards.
  • Escalate situations of compliance risk or patient safety concerns to proper member(s) of the care team and/or leadership in a timely manner.
  • Other duties assigned by leadership
