About The Position

As a member of Arizona State University’s Enterprise Technology (ET) organization, this role contributes to a culture that is relational, authentic, visionary, and empowering. Dreamscape Learn at ASU blends immersive virtual reality, cinematic storytelling, and research- based pedagogy to transform how students engage with curriculum. Supporting nearly 8,000 students weekly across 10 XR environments and facilitating over 110,000 immersive XR interactions annually, Dreamscape Learn operates at production scale while advancing immersive education innovation through its partnership with Dreamscape Immersive. The XR Experience Technician is a hands-on, field-capable contributor who ensures Dreamscape Learn environments — both fixed-site and mobile — are operationally ready each day. This role combines technical troubleshooting, physical deployment execution, transport coordination, event logistics management, student workforce supervision, and real-time instructional support to deliver seamless, high-visibility immersive learning experiences. The technician must be able to quickly assess changing conditions and adjust operational plans in real time to maintain safety, professionalism, and provide an exceptional guest experience. Dreamscape Learn operates within a continuously advancing XR platform. While systems are highly reliable, iterative improvements are part of the innovation model. Technicians follow established troubleshooting protocols and apply prescribed workarounds when necessary to ensure consistent instructional continuity. Requirements

  • Associate's degree and one (1) year of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Nice To Haves

  • Comfort performing physically demanding work in outdoor environments
  • Ability to safely lift equipment components up to approximately 50 pounds individually
  • Ability to perform coordinated two-person lifts for heavier components in accordance with vendor safety guidance
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, adaptability, and composure under time pressure

Responsibilities

  • Core XR Operations Prepare XR environments for instruction, including system activation, configuration, testing, and sanitation
  • Monitor and troubleshoot XR systems, A/V components, tracking systems, and computing hardware
  • Provide real-time guest and participant support during immersive sessions
  • Manage guest flow, safety, accessibility considerations, and session readiness
  • Apply structured troubleshooting protocols and maintain instructional continuity
  • Adapt quickly to technical, environmental, or scheduling changes to ensure seamless operations
  • Mobile Classroom Deployment Support trailer-based Mobile Classroom deployments from origin to return, including:
  • Travel to/from Mobile Classroom storage location
  • Assist with trailer alignment, hitching coordination, and inspection checklists
  • Operate hydraulic leveling and stabilization systems
  • Manage generator startup, monitoring, shutdown, and refueling coordination
  • Handle shore power connections in accordance with safety protocols
  • Assemble and disassemble aluminum platforms, stair systems, safety railings, and wheelchair lift
  • Activate interior XR systems and manage high-demand guest environments
  • Execute load-in/load-out procedures and secure equipment for transport
  • Coordinate on-site logistics for events when needed, including setup sequencing, timing adjustments, and communication with leadership
  • Event & Workforce Support Coordinate seamless operational logistics for events, VIP visits, demonstrations, and external engagements
  • Provide professional, tactful interaction with university leadership, donors, corporate partners, students, K–12 partners, and other distinguished guests
  • Mentor, train, and supervise student workers to ensure operational readiness, safety compliance, and service excellence
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively while maintaining accountability and performance standards
  • Maintain composure and professionalism in high-visibility or high-pressure situations
  • Maintain accurate inventories of XR hardware and peripherals
  • Coordinate updates and testing using enterprise device management tools
  • Track vendor repairs and equipment lifecycle
  • Uphold safety standards, sanitation protocols, and Principled Innovation commitments
  • Support recruitment events and external engagements
  • Contribute to process improvements and operational efficiency
  • Leverage AI in routine tasks and contribute ideas for using AI to improve the unit’s efficiency and overall performance.
  • Take responsibility for fostering a positive culture, upholding organizational values, and championing engagement in all its forms.
  • Collaborate across teams and actively participate in ET/ASU events and programs.
