ERG seeks an experienced writer/editor to provide communications, writing, and copyediting support. This is a one-year contract position with potential for extension. The person hired for this role will work on-site at the offices of a federal agency in downtown Washington, D.C., providing support for its programs and management.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience doing similar types of work
  • Experience developing communications plans and strategies
  • Experience writing speeches, talking points, and/or briefings
  • Experience writing content for websites and publications
  • Experience copyediting both technical and non-technical materials
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge of The Associated Press Stylebook

Responsibilities

  • Identifying gaps in current communication efforts and developing and executing comprehensive strategic plans for communicating agency messaging and priorities
  • Providing editorial and communications guidance to program offices
  • Writing speeches, talking points, and briefings for agency management
  • Drafting original content for webpages, fact sheets, and other communication products on a wide range of topics, tailored for varied audiences
  • Conducting background research to ensure the accuracy and completeness of communication products
  • Copyediting and proofreading documents for grammar, punctuation, clarity, tone, consistency, and adherence to agency style guides
  • Performing substantive editing, including reorganizing or rewriting documents for coherence and flow
  • Ensuring compliance with Plain Language Act requirements, Section 508 accessibility standards, and agency branding
  • Working closely with government staff, subject matter experts, digital teams, and other contractors
  • Tracking feedback from multiple stakeholders and incorporating it into revised deliverables
