About The Position

Guardian Rail, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, is proud to operate one of the country's leading freight rail services and transportation companies with a large network of freight and tank car repair facilities, a nationwide network of running repair agents, and a rail services division that operates short line railroads and contract switching and transloading sites. We currently have an opportunity for a Write Up Inspector in our Kansas City repair facility. This position is responsible for the inspection, researching, evaluation, and estimation of repairs in addition to the proper coding of and preparation of billing repair card estimates & documentation required to maintain company, lessee, and customer fleets.

Requirements

• This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Detailed knowledge of inspection procedures, railcar construction, and FRA and AAR rules and regulations.
• Experience with NDT processes.
• Additional training in inspection processes will be required.
• Familiarity with AS400, Microsoft Office, and various customer systems.

Nice To Haves

• Three (3) years of railroad repair experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Research & inspects incoming cars for defects and/or repairs required in accordance with governing regulations, repair standards, project letters, and customer specifications.
• Prepares and completes all paperwork required in conjunction with the write-up of needed repairs ensuring labor and material estimates and proper coding of same.
• Identifies repairs and assigns responsibility in accordance with Guardian Rail's policies and pricing matrices to ensure estimate correctness, consistency, and profitability.
• Interfaces daily with railroads, lessees, outside inspectors, and various marketing groups regarding inspection findings to expedite the repair process.
• Participates in and actively supports quality projects and activities and Environmental Safety and Health initiatives to ensure that the Company achieves its goals.
