About The Position

We're hiring Wranglers and Lead Wranglers to Live. Work. Explore. this summer! Job Summary: Wranglers are involved with conducting safe horseback and wagon tours while providing informative commentary on park features and wildlife. Responsibilities also include ensuring the welfare of the horses, performing equipment inspections, assisting guests with mounting and dismounting, and maintaining safety protocols. Lead Wranglers are involved with training wranglers and conducting horseback, stagecoach, and wagon tours while providing informative commentary on park features and wildlife. Responsibilities include ensuring safety for both employees and guests, maintaining equipment and animal welfare, and managing the cleanliness of facilities. The role also requires effective guest interaction and adherence to safety protocols. Requirements

  • Horsemanship skills including riding, saddling and tack inspection.
  • Previous commercial trail guiding preferred.
  • Possess/learn a thorough understanding of the natural, cultural, and geologic history of Yellowstone National Park with the ability to organize it into an understandable, friendly delivery to guests.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required (training provided).
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures in and out of the saddle.
  • Knowledge of tack, trail, corral repair and maintenance.
  • Communication and commentary skills.
  • Horsemanship skills and team driving skills.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership ability.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures.
  • Knowledge of Yellowstone features, facilities and services.
  • Knowledge of department and company policies and procedures.
  • Capable of handling 80 lb hay bales for an extended period of time.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must weigh 240 pounds or less for wranglers, lead wranglers, trail crew and 280 pounds or less for stagecoach/teams-wagon drivers.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
  • Must be able to mount and dismount horse without assistance.
  • Must be able to work in a high-altitude environment.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel and reach for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to speak and project voice for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in variable weather (including rain, sleet, snow, direct sunlight, high winds, and temperatures ranging from 0 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit).
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work with large, domestic animals in a corral/ranch setting and capable of riding horses up to 12 hours a day.
  • Must be able to use chemicals for cleaning or animal care.

  • Previous commercial trail guiding preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for presenting safety and guest orientation speeches.
  • Safely conduct horseback tours and assist with wagon tours while providing commentary on park features and wildlife.
  • Responsible for general welfare of horses, including grooming, feeding cleaning and maintenance of corrals and surrounding areas.
  • Inspect and report any needed maintenance of Horse Department equipment and tack.
  • Report accidents and incidents to the supervisor or manager on duty.
  • Performs all wrangler responsibilities in addition to the following:
  • Compliance with all regulatory and company safety, health, emergency and environmental initiatives and procedures.
  • Follow company and departmental safety practices to minimize risk to self and others.
  • Uphold proper horse care and management including daily inspection processes for all horses, corral , related facilities and follow-up including accident reporting.
  • Train wranglers in regard to department standards, safety protocols and guest experience expectations.
  • Report to the manager all required horse department logs, tags, reports, requests and follow-up including accident reporting.
