About The Position

The Wound Care RN provides expert nursing care and education to patients with ostomies and wound care needs in a surgical hospital setting. Responsible for assessing, planning, and evaluating care for patients requiring ostomy management and other complex wound care procedures. This position places a strong emphasis on patient and staff education, ensuring optimal outcomes and improved quality of life for patients transitioning to self-care.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing (bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • Current licensure in the State of Wisconsin
  • Must be Wound Care Certified.
  • BLS certification is required upon hire
  • Ability to relate and work effectively with others
  • Two years of experience in wound care and ostomy education required.
  • Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients with ostomies, complex wounds, fistulas, drains, and skin integrity concerns.
  • Deliver one-on-one and group education to patients and families regarding ostomy management, wound care, appliance application, skin protection, and lifestyle adaptation.
  • Conduct pre- and post-operative ostomy teaching, including stoma site selection and ongoing stoma assessment
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary surgical teams, providers, and case managers to implement and adjust wound/ostomy care plans
  • Document assessments, interventions, education, and outcomes in the electronic medical record (EMR) in accordance with hospital policy
  • Serve as a clinical resource and consultant for staff, providing education and training on ostomy and wound care best practices.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives related to wound care and patient outcomes.
  • Maintain inventory of wound and ostomy supplies; ensure proper utilization and cost-effectiveness.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, infection prevention policies, and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Perform duties in accordance with hospital mission, vision, and values with a high degree of empathy and professionalism.
  • May be asked to work flexible shifts based on department needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
