Workpoint Application Designer GENERAL PURPOSE Responsible for providing high‑quality design support to sales and clients in a timely manner while ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction. Uses interior design principles to create design concepts, working drawings, and specifications for customers to meet their furniture system’s needs. This position may support both commercial and government projects. This position works independently with general supervision and contributes to departmental objectives through reliable execution and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in interior design, required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant interior design or workplace design experience, preferably with a furniture manufacturer, dealer, or professional services organization.
  • Experience with application design, typical development, specification, and MillerKnoll furniture portfolio.
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external business partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain design concepts clearly.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment in business interactions.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in AutoCAD, CET, CAP Studio, SketchUp, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to apply logic and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Experience with RFP response support, including ownership of product selection and direction.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with internal and external resources to support project goals.

Nice To Haves

  • NCIDQ and/or other certifications, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Articulate applications that support various product applications.
  • Assist sales during client and A&D Calls by providing design input and supporting materials.
  • Assist sales with finish selections.
  • Collaborate with professional services of other licensed trades (i.e., GC, electrical contractor, etc.) regarding furniture and client requirements.
  • Conduct needs assessments with the Sales Team to understand the client and/or design firm’s objectives.
  • Contribute new ideas to recommend enhancements to design processes and procedures.
  • Create drawings and renderings to communicate a design solution in an effective manner.
  • Develop layouts, specifications and check all plans for design integrity, completeness, and compliance with local codes and ADA requirements.
  • Develop differentiating design applications of MillerKnoll solutions using established standards and tools to solve customer needs.
  • Ensure designs are code compliant.
  • Generate required documentation for installation for internal mockups.
  • Maintain accurate client files.
  • Maintain contact with clients during key phases of each job.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the industry, products, methods, and promotional strategies, as well as trends in design.
  • Maintain the highest level of specification and rendering software relevant to assigned responsibilities.
  • Manage workload in a timely and efficient manner for assigned projects and tasks.
  • May attend initial client or A&D meetings with salesperson to gather programming data.
  • Perform competitor design/application research to support value‑added solutions.
  • Provide guidance, assistance and mentor other Designers or support team members
  • Work as a team player with Sales Members and other operational employees.
  • Work as a team player with Sales, Project Management, and Customer Service Coordinators throughout critical phases of assigned projects.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
