About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Professional Application Designer to join our team in a critical hybrid role based in Sacramento. This position is ideal for a seasoned mainframe expert who enjoys bridging the gap between legacy environments and modern technical architecture. You will lead the design, development, and implementation of highly complex systems, providing technical guidance to ensure our clients achieve their desired ROI.

Requirements

  • Deep Mainframe Expertise: 10+ years of applications development experience with at least 3 years specifically in COBOL/MVS/JCL/IBM mainframe environments.
  • CICS & Web Services: At least 1 year of experience exposing CICS and COBOL programs as web services via CICS Transaction Server (CTS).
  • Technical Toolset: Hands-on experience with CICS, TSO, CHANGEMAN, SQL, DB2, Abend-Aid, MainView, and Xpediter CICS.
  • SDLC Mastery: Comprehensive knowledge of all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle and advanced principles of design, testing, and debugging.
  • Analytical Skills: A strong background in performing cost analysis for vendor products and customizing complex purchased applications.
  • Hybrid Schedule: This role requires you to be onsite at our Sacramento, CA office 2 days per week, with the remaining 3 days working from home.
  • Legal Authorization: Candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Green Card holders to be considered for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Healthcare Proficiency: Experience with healthcare claims, payer, Medicaid, or Medicare systems is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Legacy Modernization & Support: Provide expert support for COBOL mainframe environments and design changes to legacy modules.
  • System Design & Implementation: Define and develop highly complex system requirements, assessing hardware limitations and designing input/output processes for maximum compatibility.
  • Architecture Coordination: Act as the bridge between application architects and developers to ensure design requirements are accurate and aligned with client goals.
  • Project Leadership: Direct the analysis and resolution of business problems, provide quality control for project deliverables, and offer mentorship to junior personnel.
  • Full-Stack Mainframe Management: Design, install, and modify operating systems, utility software, and databases to meet specific business unit needs.
  • Strategic Research: Review literature, patents, and current practices to recommend new industry technologies to leadership.
