About The Position

The Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet advances education, workforce development, and economic opportunity across the Commonwealth. The Cabinet provides education and training programs, employment and reemployment services, unemployment insurance, and disability determination services to help Kentuckians gain skills, find work, and maintain economic stability. It partners with education providers, workforce boards, and employers to align training with labor market needs and oversees labor programs that promote fair and safe workplaces. This is a federally funded time limited (FFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as the result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non- merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position. This position will have access to confidential and sensitive information. The successful candidate will be required to ensure the safeguarding and security of all confidential and sensitive information and will be required to complete trainings, sign acknowledgments, follow all policies and adhere to all statutes and requirements pertaining to the safeguarding and security of confidential and sensitive information while employed and after employment ends.

Requirements

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • One year of experience in reviewing, monitoring, determining eligibility for, and/or administering employment service or unemployment insurance programs, or experience in education, public administration, business, human services, military, human resources or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Provides unemployment insurance assistance to applicants filing claims.
  • Answers technical questions related to claims, fields within the forms for claims, and assists applicants with required documents.
  • Answers a high volume of inbound/outbound calls from the queue from claimants and routes callers for assistance as needed.
  • With minimal to no supervision, conducts research, investigates claim issues, and identifies missing information to determine appropriate action needed for claim resolution.
  • Documents all communication details and follow up with communication related to the claimants in the claims portal, Kentucky's Electronic Workplace for Employment Services (KEWES), notes.
  • Performs other duties as required.
