About The Position

Under general supervision, the Underwriter is responsible for reviewing and processing Partial Experience Transfers and Professional Employer Organization (PEO) / Alternate Employer Organization (AEO) transactions, ensuring accurate transfer of claims and payroll history in the Rates & Payments system, reviewing PEO audit worksheets, as well as supporting the departmental quality control goals.

Requirements

  • 2 yrs. trg. or 2 yrs. exp. as underwriter for insurance organization or for agency comparable to Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation.
  • completion of undergraduate core coursework in business, insurance & risk management, accounting, mathematical sciences or related field of study.
  • Knowledge o f\: (1)workers' compensation laws, policies & procedures regarding risk & claim administration, (2)insurance & risk management, (3)accounting or business administration, (4)manual classifications, (5)loss control, (6)English grammar, (7)oral & written business communication, (8)public relations, (9)addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, & percentages, (10)BWC’s Experience Modifier calculation process, (11)underwriting, (12)claims processing as it relates to compensation & medical payments
  • Skill in 1) operating personal computer; 2) BWC software (MS office, excel, CoreSuite, BWC web combine tool Data Warehouse, UDS, SharePoint, , COGNOS); 3) calculator.
  • Ability to \: (1)define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions; (2)read & understand technical reference manuals, (3)write meaningful, accurate & concise reports, (4)gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things, (5)respond to sensitive inquiries from & contacts with employers & the public, (6)communicate technical information in a clear & precise manner to employers, employer’s representative, & attorneys, (7)identify causes for rate changes in employer’s policy year.

Responsibilities

  • Review and process Partial Experience Transfers and Professional Employer Organization (PEO) / Alternate Employer Organization (AEO) transactions, ensuring accurate transfer of claims and payroll history in the Rates & Payments system.
  • Respond to inquiries from employers, legislators, trade associations, and other stakeholders regarding PEO and AEO transaction issues.
  • Use CoreSuite and Rates & Payments and other databases to manage account information and transactions.
  • Support the PEO audit process by reviewing audit worksheets and communicating with PEOs for general resolution.
  • Represent the organization in adjudication processes related to PEO/AEO transactions and Partial Transfer Transactions .
  • Participate in cross-functional teams, assist with special projects or IT projects in support of Underwriting Consultants.
  • Mentor and train staff, perform peer reviews, and contribute to departmental quality control goals.
