About The Position

Under the general direction and supervision of the Assistant Director, Risk Management, this position serves as the primary UMD professional responsible for the management and implementation of the UMD Workers’ Compensation program in accordance with established policies and procedures, as well as State and Federal regulations. Ensures timely reporting of workers’ compensation claims; evaluates accident reports to determine accuracy and completeness to ensure adequate investigation; Provides training and guidance to department designees responsible for claims input. This position serves as the University’s primary contact with the Injured Workers' Insurance Fund (IWIF) for workers' compensation claims management in addition to offering guidance and information to injured workers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) years of worker’s compensation claim processing, investigations, or management experience.
  • Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
  • Knowledge of State of Maryland Workers' Compensation Commission law and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) reporting requirements.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
  • Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service and sensitivity to a culturally and ethnically diverse community.
