About The Position

The Woodward Copper Summer Camp Counselor will be responsible for living with a group of campers and tending to their unique needs. Camp Counselors will have responsibilities including monitoring camper whereabouts, assisting campers with wake-up and bedtime responsibilities, assisting the Activities Specialist with camper recreation, and ensuring campers’ psychological needs are met. Overnight Counselors must be in their rooms available for their campers from lights out to wake up call the next morning. This individual will be assigned a group of approximately 6 to 12 campers of a similar age. The counselor and campers will be of the same gender. As a group of campers will be assigned both day and counselors to cover their week, the counselor will coordinate with the campers’ day counselor/coach to ensure smooth daily transitions. Camp Counselors will communicate with the counselor supervisor, counselor foreman, camp office, as well as the campers’ coaches and medical staff when necessary, to ensure any physical and psychological needs are attended; e.g., daily medications, challenges in class or room. Camp Counselors will convey important communication to the camp office, as well as coaches and medical staff when necessary, to ensure campers’ needs are foreseen, understood, and dealt with appropriately; e.g., homesickness, peer challenges, overnight issues. Camp Counselors will be an integral part of all-around camp life. Camp Counselors will be responsible for knowing where their campers are at any time during their shifts. Camp Counselors may also be responsible for monitoring larger groups of campers during mealtimes or other times as deemed necessary by the Operations Manager and/or the Camp office. The Operations Manager and Camp office will schedule and train the counselors as needed for assistance with camper recreation. Camp Counselors will also be integral in the serving of camper meals during camp meals, cleaning camp facilities including but not limited to the Barn, the EDGE Cafe, EDGE lobby, camper rooms, vehicles, camper rooms, and camp laundry. Counselors can assist in the transportation of campers by driving 15 passenger vans. The Counselor is a seasonal position. Days and hours may vary but will include weekends and holidays. Must be able to work in all camp environments within a variety of hours. Good written and oral communication skills and team player attitude required. Candidates must be available to work until the end of the summer camp season.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
  • Due to the sensitive nature of this position, a criminal background check will be conducted after position is accepted. This background check will be done in accordance with standards enacted under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
  • Must have a valid US Driver’s License
  • This position may require the use of a motor vehicle and the employee is subject to comply with the Driver’s Standards of Copper Mountain

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 1 year guest service experience preferred.
  • Previous cleaning experience preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year camp experience preferred.
  • Previous resort experience in a high volume customer oriented environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to state licensing standards while supervising campers
  • In assigned room, available for campers during lights out/camper sleep time
  • Live with campers in a responsible, caring way
  • Coordinate with all camp programs
  • Communicate camper information to supervisory staff in a professional, discreet manner
  • Monitor campers’ physical whereabouts
  • Participate in recreation activities enthusiastically
  • Assist in the serving of camper meals during camp meals.
  • Bus campers dishes after meal time
  • Assist in the cleaning of camp facilities including but not limited to the Barn, the Cage, the EDGE Cafe, EDGE lobby, camper rooms, vehicles, camper rooms, camp laundry, etc.
  • Assist in the stocking and folding of merchandise at the Barn
  • Assist in the maintenance of summer terrain park features
  • Maintains a positive attitude in an eight to ten hour day, and on stressful high volume days, in order to uphold the highest standard of professionalism (including appearance and behavior at all times) as a member of the Woodward Copper staff.
  • Be knowledgeable in all departmental aspects of Woodward Copper policies and procedures, and to be able to perform the frontline duties wherever/whenever required.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with Copper Mountain Inc. and Village at Copper employees, parents, public, and other members of the Copper Mountain community
  • Drive campers safely in a 15 passenger van
  • Keep record of class lists for tracking purposes.
  • Fill out end of session feedback forms for campers to take home.
  • Meet with parents in the case of camper behavioral issues and during arrival and departure days.
  • Functions as an ambassador of Copper Mountain, modeling and sharing the Copper “culture” with our guests and employees.
  • Upholds the most professional image.
  • Continually strives to exceed our guest’s expectations and create memories for our guests and staff.
