About The Position

The Women’s Empowerment Group Coordinator will have the unique opportunity to lead the Women’s Empowerment Group Program and will work on facilitating refugee women’s integration and participation into the community. The Women’s Empowerment Group Coordinator will work with the Community Engagement Program Manager in assisting the Refugee Services (RS) department with activities that support women and children through the resettlement process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • At least three years experience working or volunteering with vulnerable populations, specifically women, children, refugees, or immigrants.
  • Knowledge and understanding of refugee women and their empowerment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of independent judgment flexibility, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must enjoy working with culturally and ethnically diverse staff, clients and volunteers.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Able to interact well with all levels and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Must have an automobile, valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and conduct weekly Refugee Women’s Empowerment Groups and workshops.
  • Track attendance and collect data from each session.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly/yearly reports on the Women’s Empowerment Group and its’ activities.
  • Work with the Women’s Empowerment Group Assistant to coordinate volunteers involved in:
  • Providing transportation to the women and their children to and from groups
  • Providing advocacy for women based on situational needs.
  • Providing childcare and age-appropriate craft activities at groups
  • Providing one-on-one English conversational practice
  • Working on additional Women Empowerment Group projects as required.
  • Setup and supervise group communication networks (Whats App/Email/Group Texts) in language of proficiency.
  • Assess situational needs of program participants and provide advocacy/assistance as needed.
  • Follow up on needs assessment with Refugee Services or external organizations.
  • Actively identify and build partnership with institutions/community organizations with the objective of facilitating strong collaboration on the Women’s Empowerment Group programming.
  • Actively build relationships and liaise with resettlement agencies on refugee women’s needs and concerns.
  • Advocate for and ensure participants in the program have the resources they need to succeed.
  • Coordinate with interpreters involved in the program for WEG events.
  • Develop and distribute surveys on Women’s Empowerment Group activities.
  • Research empowerment activities.
  • Research costs of materials, products and services needed for the program.
  • Support the Community Engagement Program Manager in grant/funding applications and other reporting for the Women’s Empowerment Group and its’ activities.
  • Work with the Community Engagement Program Manager to coordinate specific IMGH partnerships for activities for refugee women, children, and youth.
  • Check viability of virtual education in homes and support mothers and children with any issues.
  • Support women and children with learning Zoom and basic computer literacy so they can attend sessions.
  • Attend Refugee Services planning and information meetings.
  • Attend relevant community meetings and conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
