About The Position

We’re looking for outgoing, fun, friendly, and personable guides to provide our guests with an enjoyable and informative tour of the local wineries. As a Wine Tour Guide/Driver, you will be responsible for driving guests to wineries, providing information about the region, the wineries, and the wines, and ensuring that the tour runs smoothly and efficiently. You must be willing to go out of your way for guests, be enthusiastic, and always provide 5-star service. You must be self-motivated, organized, systematic, and detail-oriented. We think this is one of the greatest and most enjoyable jobs in the world, and we want you to think the same! We want you to love this dream position! Your “office” will be the beautiful landscape of Northern Virginia’s favorite wineries. Our guides stand apart from the rest by providing personalized attention, plenty of information, and keeping the tour fun! We offer to snap photos of guests in iconic locations and pristine landscapes. We take time on every tour to chat with each guest, getting to know them and connecting on a personal level. We continually check in with the group and individuals to make sure they’re enjoying the day, that the temperature in the vehicle is comfortable, that the music volume is at an appropriate level, etc. We make recommendations on things to do and places to go while they’re in the area.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Wine Certification or classes
  • Fluent English speaker. (Other languages a plus)
  • Personable, outgoing and friendly customer-service-minded personality
  • Must be knowledgeable about wine, wine making or the grape growing process.
  • Know VA wine country
  • Be comfortable leading others and talking in front of small groups, often while driving
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must be over 25 years old
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Must be able to deal with unexpected situations, crisis or emergency situations calmly and professionally
  • Must be very comfortable using various technology and learning new technology (Text, email, smart phone, Spotify, reservation system, taking creative pictures with your phone, bluetooth, Youtube, GPS, etc)

Responsibilities

  • Operate a 15 passenger van
  • Drive over designated routes in accordance with time schedules following all traffic rules and regulations
  • Make departures and arrivals according to schedule. Staying on schedule without making the group feel rushed
  • Maintain the vehicle in a clean and safe operating condition
  • Maintain good order among patrons and ensure a 5 star level of service
  • Provide guests with information about the local area, the wineries and the wines they will be tasting
  • Conduct tours of the wineries, explaining the wine making process, the history of the winery, and the unique features of each wine
  • Answer questions and address any concerns that guests may have
  • Managing group dynamics, especially when there is a diverse group from different cultural backgrounds and generations.
  • Breaking the ice for groups, getting them chatting with each other, setting the tone of the day and tour
  • Maintaining a balance between fun and educational tours
  • Reading group s and adjusting guiding style to fit different needs, desires, and expectations
