About The Position

Provide a variety of clerical services set forth in the guidelines of the Missouri WIC WOM. Prescreens applicants, obtains certification and immunization data, performs anthropometric assessment, and biochemical/bloodwork as needed. No supervisory or budgetary responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Skills in typing, data entry, filing and use of general office equipment.
  • Skills in planning and organizing work assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately record data information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive medical and personal information.
  • Ability to deal with the general public with commitment to customer service.
  • Demonstrate rapport building skills by establishing and maintaining effective working relations with WIC participants, WIC team members and other health and social services personnel.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the benefits of breastfeeding and how to support the breastfeeding mother.
  • Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to complete required WIC Health Professional Assistant trainings within 6 months of employment.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to work well with people of diverse socioeconomic/cultural backgrounds.
  • Basic computer skills and literacy in using Window Explorer.
  • Participates in continuing education activities appropriate to position.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of state required training.
  • Mandatory retraining every five years as required by state WIC.
  • All applicants must pass a drug screening and criminal background check prior to employment.
  • Any job offer made by the City is contingent upon the applicant passing the drug screening and background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience in a community health nutrition program and/or some credits in a nutrition related allied health program is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Type, prepare and update patient records.
  • Perform customer service duties.
  • Gather and assess information from clients to determine program eligibility.
  • Instruct participants on food instrument issuance/redemption procedures.
  • Complete data entry of certification and any additional documentation.
  • Conduct pre-appointment screenings for clients.
  • Assist other staff members in certifying WIC clients by obtaining and accurately recording necessary information, measurements and values in accordance with state guidelines.
  • Explain program eligibility requirements and client rights and obligations.
  • Inform participants about the benefits and services of the WIC Program.
  • Instruct clients on benefit issuance/redemption procedures.
  • Respond to numerous and varied telephone questions regarding health services and schedules.
  • Refer clients to social, community, and health/nutrition service agencies
  • Follow-up on no-show participants and schedules/reschedules appointments.
  • Monitor and maintain client files in accordance with WIC guidelines in preparation for state audit.
  • Participate in community outreach efforts as assigned.
  • Order and maintain WIC forms and paperwork from state as needed.
  • Attend staff and in-service training sessions.
  • Assist in the promotion of breastfeeding as the preferred method of infant feeding.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
