About The Position

This position is responsible for work involving direct nursing services for clients in open and satellite clinics, including coordinating the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse License in good standing with the Kansas Board of Nursing.
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing with three (3) years’ work experience in general nursing practices.
  • Must maintain CPR certification.
  • Valid Kansas driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct client services:
  • Assesses, educates, and evaluates client needs (pregnant and postpartum women, infants, reproductive health clients children age 5 and below) via home visits, clinic/office visits, or phone calls.
  • Develops nursing care plans and coordinates care.
  • Assesses, educates, and evaluates clients regarding acute and chronic health conditions, psychosocial, and environmental needs and refers to appropriate resources.
  • Conducts physical examinations, assesses health of infants, children, and adults.
  • Completes referrals to physicians and other medical services as needed.
  • Participates in development and updating of local breastfeeding policies and procedures including provision of breast pumps to WIC clients.
  • Assists with the breastfeeding action plan for the Nutrition Services Plan.
  • Ensures a breastfeeding-friendly clinic environment that fosters a positive attitude toward breastfeeding.
  • Assists in collecting documentation records and data as needed for quarterly reports.
  • Assists in completing quarterly reports and yearly clinic Breastfeeding Peer Counselor (BFPC) program self-monitoring form.
  • Participates in Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) sponsored BFPC and WIC trainings.
  • Participates in the coordination and facilitation of WIC breastfeeding community outreach and promotion activities.
  • Develops and interprets health department and nutrition policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Assists in monitoring compliance with WIC and Health Department policies and procedures.
  • Ensures all local policies and procedures are compliant with State Policy and Procedure Manual, and the terms of the WIC contract.
  • Develops and oversees caseload management to ensure that services are provided to the greatest numbers of eligible persons.
  • Assists in coordinating a minimum of two (2) outreach efforts annually with appropriate community programs to ensure caseload at capacity.
  • Provides for positive publicity and the effective distribution of WIC outreach materials.
  • Assists the community in understanding the goals and objectives of the WIC Program.
  • Helps disseminate through statistics and non-specific case histories, information that highlights the success of the WIC program in the community.
  • Prepares, updates, and maintains client records, utilizing various electronic health record systems.
  • Facilitates and participates in community coalitions, and works with community partners to provide collaboration, outreach, and education.
  • Participates in quality improvement projects and incorporates quality improvement principles.
  • Provides surge capacity to Public Health Emergency and Epidemiology for investigative work and community containment in a public health emergency or severe outbreak.
  • Other duties as assigned.
