About The Position

The Welding Supervisor is responsible for supervising, training, and developing employees in the Welding Department through hands-on leadership, observation, and performance management. This role requires the ability to pass AWS and EK Machine weld tests and demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of welding processes. The position supports continuous improvement in quality, safety, efficiency, and team development and reports directly to the Weld Manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of welding experience in a fabrication shop or welding environment.
  • Ability to pass AWS and EK Machine weld tests.
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes and fabrication practices.
  • Associate’s Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees, customers, and clients.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
  • This position requires regular standing, walking, sitting, and frequent use of hands and arms for handling, reaching, and fine motor tasks.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and the ability to talk and hear are required.
  • The employee must regularly lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Visual requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Computer skills and experience with robotic welding are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise welders within the Welding Department.
  • Oversee, measure, and report welder performance for reviews and disciplinary actions to the Weld Manager.
  • Communicate effectively with the Fabrication Manager and supervisory personnel across shifts.
  • Assist with workload planning and job preparation for welders.
  • Ensure daily compliance with 5S standards; log and report 5S data weekly.
  • Evaluate and certify welders on applicable welding processes.
  • Mentor new employees or assign appropriate mentors during the 90-day introductory period.
  • Evaluate welding processes and drive continuous improvement in quality, tooling usage, and run times.
  • Read and interpret blueprints; train operators on blueprint interpretation.
  • Lead and coach welders in positioning and clamping components for welding.
  • Train welders to weld metal parts using various arc welding processes.
  • Lead a team performing complex and specialized welding on a variety of metals and alloys according to blueprints and job routings.
  • Perform and demonstrate advanced welding skills where alignment, dimensions, and weld quality are critical.
  • Utilize weld fixtures, gauges, and jigs as required.
  • Inspect welds using precision measuring equipment and document inspection results.
  • Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications.
  • Understand fabrication of both metallic and non-metallic materials.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Train employees; plan, assign, and direct work.
  • Appraise performance, address complaints, and resolve problems.
  • Directly supervise Welding Department employees.
  • Report to the Weld Manager.
