About The Position

This position will consist of a welder who lays out, fits, and welds fabricated, cast, and forged components to build or rebuild parts, according to blueprints and knowledge of welding and metallurgy: Selects equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Ability to lift up to 50# is required
Welding, soldering, and brazing skills.
Two years professional training in a vocational institution, or equivalent journey level experience desired

Nice To Haves

Rigging loads for overhead crane work and forklift operation is desired
A two-year Associate Degree from a technical/trade school is preferred

Responsibilities

Safety – conduct all activities in a safe manner, utilizing PPE and adhering to company policy and alerting others regarding potential concerns. Safety is # 1.
Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications.
Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies using welding equipment.
Cuts work piece, using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife.
Observes tests on welded surfaces, such as hydrostatic, x-ray, and dimension tolerance to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.
Inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments.
Removes rough spots from work piece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment.
Ignites torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc.
Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
Types of welding include: MIG- Metal Inert Gas; FCGS- Flux Core Gas Shielded; SAW- Submerge Arc Welding; SMAW- Shield Metal Arc (Stick); Metal Core Welding
Performs other duties as assigned.
