About The Position

Lays out, performs fit-up, tacks, and welds parts to produce a weldment or sub- weldment. Joins various metals (aluminum, steel, stainless steel) using a full range of welding processes in different weld positions. Performs rework on product involving repair of defective welds and machined features. Performs other duties as assigned. Works from engineering drawings, work instructions, operation/process sheets, pictures and project specifications. Operates manual and semi-automatic welding and plasma cutting equipment. Skilled in Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) .Operates oxy-fuel cutting equipment as well as a plasma torch for the purpose of cutting. Operates pneumatic tooling such as grinders, sanders, drills, and threaded hole tapping equipment for the purpose of fit up. Uses fixtures to layout, locate and position parts and features to be welded and reworked. Must be capable of using a band saw to fabricate simple parts as well as, spacers, tie-bars, and other items that are required in a welding department. Inspects work using precision measuring instruments.

Requirements

  • A minimum of one year experience with a technical background.
  • Must pass GMAW overhead (4G) weld certification test in aluminum OR steel.
  • Must have ability to use band saw to fabricate simple parts.
  • Must have ability to recognize out-of-specification conditions and defects in weld workmanship.
  • Must have ability to complete required shop floor paperwork and documentation.
  • Must have ability to read and interpret drawings with weld symbols, machined features, and the UDLP/TACOM aluminum steel weld code book.
  • Must have the ability to work in a team oriented work environment.
  • Must be capable of wearing respiratory protective equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • If internal: Must possess all the skills required of a Welder I.
  • A minimum of three - six months welding experience at the Vehicle Up-Grade Facility.
