The approximate date of this internship is May/June 2026 to December 2026 and will be located in Orlando, FL. What You Will Do We are looking for a Show Set Design Intern that will work within the department that turns concepts for immersive Disney environments into reality by collaborating with project teams and designing, coordinating, and communicating the details which maintain the creative intent of a show for bidding, construction, production, and installation purposes! The intern is an integral part of the design process which creates documents including drawings and digital models that express the design intent and coordinate all show disciplines within the boundaries of the architecture. The Show Set Department continues its support of the design intent in vendor shops and through installation in the field. Areas of direct responsibility include all set walls, scenic flats, platforms, ground rows, murals, set decoration, animated props, and artificial foliage. Additionally, the intern will coordinate the ride system, animated figures, show-action equipment, projection equipment, audio equipment, ride sensors, special effects, rigging elements, facility elements, control rooms, guest egress, sprinklers, electrical boxes, exit signs, catwalks, themed lighting, show lighting, visual intrusion, maintenance access and all other physical entities within the show environment. Through the many artifices of the Stage and Entertainment medias, it is the mission of the Show Set Department to create highly entertaining environments in which the magic of each Disney story is possible. In trying to offer a unique internship experience, there may be opportunities to contribute to other design scopes of work such as production design or color design to expand the overall understanding of theme park design.

Requirements

  • 2D and 3D computer aided design on a variety of software; specifically, Rhino & Revit
  • Ability to read drawing packages and interpret contract documents with a solid knowledge of Excel and MS Word
  • Ability to create contract documents across a variety of theming styles, using hand drawings, 3D programs (Revit and Rhino preferred). Interoperability between many other programs would be helpful
  • Eagerness to learn new workflows and ability to critically problem solve interoperability and coordination issues between teams
  • Able to follow and apply all company drafting standards, policies, and procedures
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Currently enrolled as a Junior or higher attending an accredited college/university earning a degree in Architecture, Theatre Design, Film Production, Scenic Design, Production Design, Interior Design, Industrial Design or Product Design.
  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or Disney College Program
  • Able to provide reliable transportation to/from work
  • Fully available for the duration of the internship

Responsibilities

  • Support development, coordination, and communication of production design concepts to the project team
  • Support the design and expert coordination of the project design intent as directed by Principal and Senior Show Set Design leads for the project
  • Assist production designers and model shop artists in coordinating models with drawings
  • Research applicable materials and construction techniques
  • Assist in maintenance and creation of show lists
  • Support mock-ups and presentations including set-up and strike
  • Work on a team to create show set design packages and contract scope documents, within company standards and guidelines
