About The Position

Ensures professional stewardship of Atlanta’s drinking water, wastewater, and storm water systems while delivering excellent customer service. Installs meters, repairs pipes, makes decisions on job sites and supervises crew members. This is an experienced, skilled or technical level capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the position or specialty with limited guidance or review. This level would be considered a promotional level and attainable by any incumbents in a work group who demonstrate the necessary knowledge, ability, and performance. Could be the only position in this specialty in a work group or could be part of a general or specialized work team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years of construction or maintenance experience in wastewater collection system.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B
  • Knowledge of most concepts and methods related to the area of watershed systems maintenance.
  • Knowledge of administrative and safety requirements for the assigned area.
  • Skill in operating the following tools: backhoe, 312 & 322 Caterpillar, frontend loader, jackhammer, air compressor, crew truck.
  • Skill in performing all typical tasks associated with supervising the maintenance of construction activities.
  • Ability to train and manage a group of skilled and semi-skilled employees in carrying out technical maintenance.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Wastewater Collection System Operator License or Water Distribution Operator License

Responsibilities

  • Supervises assigned crew to the completion of corrective maintenance and preventative maintenance activities associated with the water distribution system and other duties related to watershed management.
  • Ensures effective, safe completion of jobs in compliance with established rules, regulations and policy guidelines.
  • Trains, instructs, and coaches crew in performing repair and maintenance on other systems and structures as required; assignments typically include repairing broken mains and service lines, installing water meters, valves, curb cocks, corporations, and hydrants .
  • Ensures daily job record documentation (i.e., work orders) are submitted.
  • Transports crew to work sties; operates heavy equipment.
  • Implements appropriate control for traffic and pedestrian safety.
  • Maintains equipment and tools.
  • Inspects and assesses completed work.
  • Ensures daily job record documentation is submitted for SOM system update.
  • Provides input for crew members performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
  • Answers questions and provides information to the public; demonstrates diplomatic customer service.
  • Responds to phone calls and emails.
  • Uses expertise to adjust methods to accommodate unforeseen site conditions.
  • Assists with hands-on training of staff and new hires.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
