About The Position

Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines seeks a dynamic and enthusiastic Waterfront Director to be part of their 2026 Summer Camp Team, supporting overnight camp programs across all Council properties: Camp Mary Atkinson, Camp Graham, Camp Hardee, and Camp Mu-Sha-Ni. The organization's mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. The Waterfront Director will primarily be based at Camp Mary Atkinson in Selma, NC, with travel to other Council camps as needed, for which transportation will be provided. This is a seasonal position, running from mid-May through the end of July 2026, offering a weekly salary of $650.00, which includes housing and meals after training. Staff also have the opportunity to earn up to a $500 bonus, split into a $250 Mid-Summer Bonus for remaining employed through the end of June and a $250 Completion Bonus for remaining employed through the end of summer camp.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the US.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Current certification in ARC first aid and CPR for Professional Rescuers or the ability to obtain certification.
  • Current certification in ARC Lifeguarding or the ability to obtain certification.
  • Prior experience in the development and delivery of recreational programs.
  • Must have a North Carolina Boating License (or be able to obtain one).
  • Understanding of youth development and the ability to relate positively to youth and adults.
  • Program coordination skills and commitment to the Girl Scout mission.
  • Willingness to live and work in a camp setting, including working nontraditional hours.
  • Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
  • Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid.
  • Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
  • Endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching.
  • Willing to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours with limited or simple equipment and facilities with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, etc.

  • Experience in supervising others especially peers is desirable.
  • Prior camp experience or working with youth preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Train and supervise the waterfront staff and provide management to the physical operation of the aquatic facilities and equipment.
  • Plan and deliver activities at Camp Mary Atkinson and Camp Graham's waterfront/pool areas that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the camper's age and abilities.
