About The Position

Anchor QEA is seeking a full-time senior waterfront engineer in Southern California to help lead our west coast project teams on projects involving remediation, dredging, habitat improvement, facility improvement, and coastal engineering, largely focused on waterfront and nearshore sites. Applicants will have between 10 – 15 years of experience with civil engineering, coastal engineering, and/or directly related engineering field(s), including technical design and construction implementation or oversight. We are interested in candidates who are detail-orientated, collaborative team players, who possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, and who are interested in and capable of direct client interaction and involvement with business development initiatives. This role is intended to strengthen our presence in the Southern California market. Direct client involvements would include marinas, shipyards, Ports, municipalities, developers, environmental attorneys, and industrial facilities. The role includes leading complex projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver multi-benefit outcomes, and expanding our partnerships with regional private clients and national entities. Requirements

  • BS or MS degree in relevant field (e.g., Civil, Environmental, Coastal, or similar field of engineering)
  • 10-15 years of experience
  • Understanding the application of engineering principles for engineering design, including cost estimating, and development of plans and specifications
  • Experience in project and program management including developing and managing scopes, detailed schedules, budgets, and sub-consultants
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A California Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain one within one year
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (preferred; will be provided by Anchor QEA upon hire if not certified)

Nice To Haves

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D experience a plus
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (preferred; will be provided by Anchor QEA upon hire if not certified)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a supporting, and ultimately leading, engineer for the types of project described above.
  • Lead engineering planning and design efforts including, but not limited to, concept designs, alternative studies, basis of design requirements, construction drawings, technical reports and specifications, and construction cost estimates
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers
  • Develop client relationships through direct involvement and coordination with client’s project manager and/or technical staff
  • Active participation in business development initiatives, including participation, and ultimately leadership in devising business development outreach strategies, formulation of competitive proposals, developing scopes of work and budget estimates, and project management.
  • Analyze complex problems and develop cost-efficient and value-engineered solutions
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of project deliverables including construction documents
  • Ensure that work products are prepared in accordance with Anchor QEA’s quality management program
  • Ability to travel for field site visits and project meetings, mostly in California, but potentially in various US locations as well
