About The Position

This is technical work involving the operation of water plants. Work requires considerable technical knowledge and the used of independent judgment in the safe and efficient operation of the water pumping and treatment system. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Water Resources Operations Manager and is reviewed through observation, conversation, and evaluation of results achieved.

Requirements

An Ability to perform heavy manual labor; to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to maintain accurate records and prepare clear and concise reports of plant operations.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work environment.
Knowledge of procedures, methods, and plant operations of water plants.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures.
Knowledge of math and chemistry.
Graduation from high school, vocational school, or recognized equivalent certification.
Possession of a current Florida Class C Water Certification.
Must possess a valid State of Florida driver's license.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, provided that the education and experience are in a relevant and related field.

Responsibilities

Maintenance and ground keeping of all water plants.
Perform routine maintenance on all water plant equipment.
Supervises and participates in the inspection, adjustment and repairs of treatment plant equipment, such as chlorinators, lime slakers, flocculators, digesters, sludge collectors, filters aerators, chemical feeders, vacuum filters, pumps, valves, screens and related equipment.
Takes samples and delivers them to reviewing agencies as required.
Enforces safety standards and regulations.
Maintains plant records, compiles and submits operation reports for submittal to local, state and federal agencies.
Work includes some public contact at times, involving complaint situations which the employee must meet with patience and tact.
Check water plant on weekends.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees.
May be required to be responsible for limited supervision of trainees.
Performs any other duties or tasks that may be assigned.
