About The Position

Parsons is seeking an experienced Industrial Water Treatment Plant Operator, ready to take on a leadership role supporting the Senior Field Project Manager and Operator in Charge to support a former landfill project in Aurora, Colorado. Only local candidates will be considered for this position or candidates willing to relocate for this opportunity. Lowry Landfill Superfund Site is a long-term project expected to continue indefinitely. Renewal of the contract by the Lowry Trust is based on Parsons’ performance so all Parsons staff at Lowry Landfill must perform their daily duties safely with skill and integrity without exception. This position is responsible for assisting certified operators in the operating and maintenance of the water treatment plant and gain work experience and training to become a certified water treatment plant operator. This role will also serve as a Deputy Field Project Manager and take on a leadership role for the entire Lowry Landfill Superfund Site.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug test, and a background test
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean DMV record and the ability to clear an MVR check
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to work full time (Monday through Friday from 7am until 3:30/4pm) with occasional weekend or night work
  • Ability to work at high elevations
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds multiple times per day
  • Enter, stand, and work in confined spaces, crouch for long period of times
  • Adherence to a strong safety culture including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) up to modified level C for a couple of tasks (chemical changeout)
  • Mechanically inclined with experience operating and troubleshooting tools and equipment
  • Must be flexible with respect to work tasks and the ability to work with diverse people and skill sets, ability to work with others in a professional team environment, as well as independently when required
  • Must have outdoor work experience and be willing and able to work outdoors 100% of the time in all weather conditions and in a wide range of temperatures
  • 40 Hour OSHA Hazwoper is a plus, but we will provide the right candidate with that training

Nice To Haves

  • Ideal candidate has previous experience working on water treatment systems, with pumps, materials, equipment, and/or construction to support plant maintenance and repair activities
  • Preference will be given to candidates with valid 40-hour Hazwoper training

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, perform a variety of skilled technical duties and semi-skilled labor tasks in the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant
  • Understand and maintain a complex groundwater treatment system that includes chemical precipitation of solids, moving bed biological reactors, an advanced oxidation process using ultraviolet light and peroxide, and an IX treatment system. The system includes over 30 process pumps, multiple process controllers, and computers
  • Perform assigned treatment plant rounds; inspect, monitor, troubleshoot, test and document plant processes
  • Operate, monitor, repair, and adjust treatment plant machinery and equipment including pumps, valves, motors, meters, tanks, reservoirs, feeders, and other equipment to maintain appropriate plant operations
  • Maintain, compile and update plant operations log and reports; perform and record mathematical calculations related to plant operational activities
  • Safely operate a forklift to perform chemical changeouts and filter press maintenance
  • Don modified Level C PPE for chemical changeouts
  • Mix and add treatment chemicals; ensure adequate chemical application according to regulations and guidelines
  • Maintain and calibrate onsite gas chromatographs
  • Collect and document samples and perform a variety of routine water quality laboratory tests
  • Assist with weekly and monthly sampling of the plant process, including returning to the plant after hours to collect 24-hour time paced sampling of the plant effluent once or twice a month per the discharge permit requirements
  • Perform general plant facility maintenance such as cleaning, painting, and repairing plant facilities; perform various grounds maintenance duties as required
  • Perform site maintenance such as mowing, pest control, weed control, etc.
  • Support construction projects around the Lowry site with utility locates
  • Perform 24/7 on call duties on a three to four-week rotation and provide vacation coverage, including maintaining a project provided laptop used to access the plant remotely by a secure VPN (Home internet access is required)
  • Staff will be expected to obtain a State of Colorado Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator Class D Certification within the first year and within five years to have progressed to a level B Certification. Only persons holding a Class A Certification will be allowed to take full responsibility of the treatment plant operations and should be the goal of every treatment plant operator working at the site.
