About The Position

As our Water Meter Maintenance Technician, you'll be at the heart of a variety of dynamic tasks, in support of the operation and maintenance of the Town’s commercial, irrigation and residential meters and other Town infrastructure. You'll play a crucial part in ensuring the smooth operation of our meter reading and service processes, contributing to the satisfaction of our residential and commercial customers. This position is primarily working for the Meters Division within Utilities, however cross-training and other duties may be assigned. Our level I position is entry-level, and we are looking for people who are interested in learning new skills and open to new opportunities! No experience? No problem! We offer hands-on training to help you develop the skills you need to succeed and advance in your career. If you are a more experienced Maintenance Technician, we still highly encourage you to apply, as we have the ability to hire at a level II or III, based on your qualifications.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record required

Nice To Haves

  • one (1) year of laboring, heavy maintenance, equipment operations or other experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists, performs and/or directs a variety of routine to complex maintenance and construction activities to include meter sets, meter vaults, concrete curb and sidewalk, and curb stops.
  • Operates heavy and light duty equipment to perform related maintenance and construction assignments such as front-end loader, dump truck, skid steer, backhoe, and snow plow.
  • Performs a variety of meter reading tasks to include reading residential, raw water and commercial meters, changing out meters and maintaining detailed records of all activities, performing rereads, performing service orders from Finance including checking for leaks, turn off/on, move in/out, rereads after billing.
  • Performs a variety of heavy laboring activities including the use of hand tools, light power equipment and heavy construction and maintenance equipment.
  • Fabricates, installs, maintains and uses a variety of specialized and complex programming and meter reading equipment and performs light mechanical repair and maintenance.
  • Performs snow removal activities either by hand, small equipment or heavy equipment as assigned.
  • Performs data entry of information, maintenance logs and other data.
  • Responds to and coordinates with customers and contractors for work orders, inquiries and complaints.
  • Prepares necessary records and reports.
  • Performs a variety of duties that requires considerable knowledge of the use and wear of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Performs routine safety checks of equipment and minor maintenance activities on vehicles and equipment and maintains records of activities.
  • Maintains a safe working environment to include working in traffic and congested areas, working in ditches and confined spaces and all work environments.
  • Assists in the cleaning and organization of shop area.
  • Assisting Streets in maintenance of roadways and signage.
  • Assisting Distribution, Collections, Storm Operations tasks to include maintenance and inspection of sanitary sewer, manhole, lift stations, CCTV, water, sewer and storm lines, hydrants, valve, and PRVs.
  • Assisting Locates with utility locates.
  • Assisting in Town events preparation, operation and break down.
