EPCOR is looking for a Water/Wastewater Operator to help keep our Rio Verde facilities running safely, efficiently, and reliably. In this role, you’ll help ensure clean, safe water for the community by monitoring plant operations, maintaining equipment, and supporting day-to-day treatment processes—all while building your technical skills and advancing your career.

Requirements

  • Experience with computers and data collection systems.
  • Comfort using hand tools, power equipment, and testing instruments.
  • An understanding of water/wastewater treatment processes.
  • Knowledge of water production, distribution, and storage systems.
  • Strong safety awareness, including mechanical, electrical, chemical, and confined-space practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work well with customers and team members.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotations, overtime, and emergency call-outs.
  • Operators are required to fulfill on-call duties an average of one week per month on a rotational schedule. Position has the potential for exposure to dust, pollen, chemicals, water and sewage.
  • Operator I: Grade 1 certification in Water or Wastewater. HS Diploma or GED. Valid AZ Driver's license, Class D.
  • Operator II: Minimum of two years of experience in water or wastewater operations or one year of experience as a Level II Operator outside EPCOR. Grade 2 certification in Water or Wastewater. HS Diploma or GED. Valid AZ Driver's license, Class D.
  • Operator III: Minimum of three years of experience in water or wastewater operations or one year of experience as a Level II Operator outside EPCOR. Grade 3 certification in Water or Wastewater. HS Diploma or GED. Valid AZ Driver's license, Class D.

Responsibilities

  • Support the daily operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Monitor plant equipment, troubleshoot issues, and help optimize system performance.
  • Perform water sampling, lab testing, and equipment calibration to maintain compliance with County, State, and EPA standards.
  • Safely handle and work with treatment chemicals.
  • Review lab results and SCADA data to guide plant adjustments.
  • Assist in new facility start-ups and collaborate with teammates on technical tasks.
  • Complete daily reports, logs, and job hazard assessments.
  • Work with contractors and vendors for repairs and equipment upgrades.
