The City of Deltona is seeking motivated individuals to join our Wastewater Operations team. This position offers a unique opportunity to start or grow your career in water utilities, with a structured trainee pathway and advancement into licensed operator roles. Whether you are beginning your career or already hold a license, this position provides hands-on experience supporting essential infrastructure that protects public health and the environment. DEFINITION : The purpose of this job/class within the organization is to collect and analyze water compliance samples according to state and federal laws. This job/class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Requirements

  • Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Licensed Operators require one year of experience in wastewater testing, operations or closely related experience.
  • Are interested in building a long-term career in water/wastewater operations
  • Can work independently while following established procedures
  • Have strong attention to detail and safety awareness
  • Are comfortable working in a hands-on, operational environment
  • Are willing to obtain required certifications and licenses

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and operates gauges, meters, and control panels.
  • Controls variations and operating conditions of the treatment process; records meter and gauge headings.
  • Monitors SCADA system and sends commands via radio signal to make adjustments at wastewater plants.
  • Operates and maintains valves, motors, pumps, and engines either manually or by remote control
  • Monitors and adjusts plant operations manually or by computer.
  • Cleans and maintains all aspects of the wastewater process, including headwork, filters, and tanks.
  • Extracts samples and conducts routine laboratory tests
  • Documents and certifies test results.
  • Conducts change-out of chemical containers and associated equipment as needed.
  • Check chemical residuals onsite and conducts analyzer comparisons with hand-held meters.
  • Conducts scheduled plant inspections, certifying completion of such inspections in the facility check sheets and logbooks.
  • Ensures that plant facilities and grounds are kept clean, neat, and orderly.
