About The Position

The purpose of this classification is to be responsible for learning the successful operation of the water and wastewater plants, including maintenance of equipment, monitoring treatment process, data collection and lab procedures.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Must be able to obtain a Georgia Class III Water and Wastewater certification within 18 months of start date.
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

One year of experience in water and sewer construction, operations and facilities maintenance, or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Experience with process control and pertinent lab procedures.

Responsibilities

Perform/assist in all aspects of sampling, monitoring and testing required to maintain compliance with Federal State and Local regulations governing the water and wastewater treatment processes including sludge management.
Perform/assist in assigned treatment plant rounds; inspect, monitor, troubleshoot, performance test and document plant processes by reading plant equipment gauges, dials, graphs, online analyzers, computer screens, meters, SCADA systems and other instrumentation.
Operates/assists in operating sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in wastewater treatment plant to control flow and processing of sewage.
Operates/assists in water treatment plants including chemical addition, recording flows, adjusting chemical feed rates, maintaining treatment equipment and recording changes and adjustments.
Monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of sewage.
Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings and tests results to determine load requirements.
Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of raw sewage through filtering, settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes.
Maintain, compile and update plant operation logs and reports; perform and record mathematical calculations related to plant operational activities.
Perform/assists in the installation, maintenance and repair of the physical plant and pump stations and all their components.
Assist in the performance of regular and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on all plant equipment and machinery.
Operates sanitary sewer collection systems, inspect lift stations recording, monitor, troubleshoot, document performance testing.
Inspect and maintain gravity sewer, manholes, air release valves, and sanitary force mains.
Inspect and maintain water distribution systems, elevated tanks, wells, and other water distribution equipment as necessary.
Perform repair on water mains, water service lines, stop boxes, and hydrants.
Conduct/assist in the necessary weekend checks of the treatment plants on a rotating basis.
Perform all work in conformance to Occupational Safety and Health Act regulations.
Assists in collection and documentation of liquid and solid samples and perform a variety of routine water quality laboratory tests; work closely with the laboratory on testing processes; monitor laboratory results; assist in collection of water samples as required by the State of Georgia.
Work in multiple plants as needed.
Is on call for emergency work assignments, including evenings and weekends.
Punctuality and attendance are essential.
Performs other related duties as required.
