About The Position

Oversees and manages personnel and material resources related to waste removal, recycling operations, special event support, and the cleaning of parking lots, garages, and parking decks. Supervises, trains, and evaluates staff to ensure high performance and adherence to operational standards. Assesses training needs and ensures all employees complete required and developmental training programs. Participates in recruitment, onboarding, and the separation processes. Collaborates with supervisory personnel and Human Resources on disciplinary matters and provides recommendations regarding personnel actions. Reviews and approves leave requests ensuring adequate coverage, monitors and validates timekeeping for accuracy and compliance. Collaborates with team members to identify and implement strategies for increasing revenue sources. Ensures the safety of all staff by promoting a safe working environment and enforcing safety protocols. Conducts regular tours of university properties, both on and off campus assessing the need for waste services, including placement and adequacy of trash containers and dumpsters. Provides daily work assignments and coordinates staff and equipment to meet operational demands. Inspects employees' work locations to ensure tasks are performed safely, effectively, and in compliance with university standards. Provides onsite guidance and leadership to personnel implementing corrective measures when necessary to ensure satisfactory performance and adherence to safety protocols. May supervise and coordinate activities of external service contractors and suppliers as needed. Oversees the proper collection, handling, and disposal of domestic trash and recyclable materials. Manages the transfer of waste materials from university departments to designated campus collection receptacles. Serves as a backup for route or shift coverage when required to maintain continuity of service. Oversees the preventive maintenance and repair program for refuse vehicles, dumpsters, and related equipment. Coordinates service schedules and ensures timely repairs to minimize operational disruptions. Supervises the cleaning of gravel parking lots and garages. Identifies and reports facility repair and service needs to the appropriate departments. Meets with campus departments and external customers to assess waste and recycling service needs. Handles service-related complaints and resolves issues in a timely and efficient manner. Develops and implements new recycling and refuse programs for on and off-campus locations. Serves as or delegates an emergency contact for after-hours callbacks related to refuse operations. Establishes and maintains files, records, and related reports on the preventive maintenance and repair of assigned vehicles and equipment. Updates documentation regularly to ensure accuracy and compliance with university standards. Operates university vehicles as required to support departmental needs, including transportation of equipment or personnel. Performs other duties as assigned to assist with department assignments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency and four years of experience, or a combination of post-high school education and experience equal to four years.
  • A valid State of Florida or Georgia driver's CDL Class B license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather.
