About The Position

The Director of Safety will lead the strategic development and execution of all safety, health, and environmental programs across our 3PL network. This individual is responsible for fostering a "Safety First" culture that spans both our physical warehousing footprint and our transportation/fleet operations. You will ensure 100% compliance with OSHA, DOT, and FMCSA regulations while driving down total cost of risk. POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Strategic Leadership & Culture Design and implement a unified safety vision across multiple sites and transportation hubs. Serve as the primary subject matter expert (SME) for all safety-related matters, advising executive leadership on emerging risks and regulatory changes. Lead the "Safety Committee" and mentor site-level safety managers to ensure consistent policy application. 2. Transportation & Fleet Safety (DOT/FMCSA) Oversee FMCSA compliance, including ELD monitoring, Hours of Service (HOS), and Maintenance Files. Manage the CSA (Compliance, Safety, Accountability) score, identifying trends and implementing corrective actions to maintain a "Satisfactory" rating. Develop driver training programs (onboarding, defensive driving, and post-accident re-training). 3. Warehouse & Occupational Health (OSHA) Ensure all distribution centers comply with OSHA 1910 standards (Power Industrial Trucks, Rack Safety, Egress, and PPE). Conduct regular internal audits and "mock inspections" to identify hazards before they lead to incidents. 4. Claims & Risk Management Lead accident investigations to determine root causes using the 5-Whys or Fishbone analysis. Partner with insurance carriers and brokers to manage Workers’ Compensation, Auto Liability, and General Liability claims. Analyze safety data/KPIs (TRIR, DART, and LTIR) to present monthly "State of Safety" reports to the board.

Requirements

  • 5 - 7 years of progressive safety experience within a 3PL environment.
  • Expertise in DOT and OSHA regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Extensive experience with a Fleet Management System such as Motive or Samsara.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of warehouse operations is necessary.
  • Must be able to give and receive innovative, creative and helpful feedback for team growth and productivity.
  • Must be able to interface and communicate effectively within the organization, with business units throughout the company, and with partners across the supply chain.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must be a strong team player with a firm personal commitment toward the business and its customers.
  • Excellent project management skills (Open/close facilities, acquisition integrations)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to process analytics
  • KPI’s management and implementation.
  • Identify problems and/or situations and present viable solutions to the Leadership Team.
  • Ability to stand and sit for periods of time and to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Ability to perform focused work with close attention to detail.
  • Must have effective sensory and motor skills as well as manual dexterity, as appropriate for the role.
  • Ability to push, lift, carry, pull, and/or throw up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work in and adapt to both hot and cold environments.
