About The Position

BenchSci is seeking a VP of Marketing to redefine the marketing department in the age of generative intelligence. This role involves owning BenchSci’s brand, demand generation, and market position in biopharma R&D, with a core focus on building an "agentic infrastructure" from scratch. The primary goal for the first year is to establish BenchSci as the definitive brand for AI in drug discovery, ensuring scientists and executive buyers recognize and engage with the company, and that its narrative shapes the category. The successful candidate will build the most efficient marketing function in biopharma SaaS, operating as a "Team of One" by directing a fleet of AI agents and autonomous workflows to achieve outcomes that would traditionally require a much larger team. Marketing is expected to be a measurable driver of lead generation, providing a consistent, qualified pipeline to Sales. This position emphasizes both strong brand outcomes and an innovative operating model. The role is intentionally designed as a "Team of One," meaning the individual will not inherit a team, agencies, or contractor relationships, but will independently architect the AI agent workforce. The VP of Marketing will have a significant budget for best-in-class AI tools and infrastructure, deep partnership with Sales, Account Services, and the scientific team, a seat on the senior leadership team, and direct access to the CEO. BenchSci believes that one person with the right judgment and tooling can outperform a traditional marketing organization.

Requirements

  • AI-native operator: Orchestrates AI tools, understands agentic frameworks, LLM orchestration, and how to automate multi-step marketing workflows end-to-end, including architecture, failure modes, and judgment calls.
  • Biopharma fluent: Understands the language of the lab, the nuances of drug discovery, clinical timelines, and the realities of selling into pharma R&D.
  • "Full-stack" marketing leader: Comfortable moving between high-level board strategy and the technical plumbing of the AI stack without losing signal.
  • Radically efficient: Has a natural disdain for traditional corporate bloat and a passion for proving that intelligence plus automation beats headcount every time.
  • 10+ years in marketing leadership.
  • 3–5 years specifically in biopharma, life sciences, or HealthTech.
  • Proven track record of building brand awareness and category position in a technical B2B market.
  • A track record of pipeline ownership (accountable for revenue or pipeline contribution, not just campaign metrics).
  • Demonstrated experience building and operating AI-driven marketing workflows, able to walk through the architecture built.
  • Exceptional communicator across scientific and executive audiences.
  • Comfortable operating without a team, seeing it as leverage, not limitation.

Responsibilities

  • Position BenchSci as the essential AI platform for scientific discovery, with narratives that resonate with both lab scientists and executive buyers.
  • Be accountable for marketing’s contribution to lead generation and pipeline.
  • Partner with Sales to execute account-based marketing (ABM) at a scale with precision previously impossible, targeting key personas within top-tier pharmaceutical organizations.
  • Design, deploy, and operate a workforce of AI agents across content, SEO, performance, lead scoring, social, and market intelligence.
  • Set the annual marketing strategy and budget.
  • Translate the annual marketing strategy into monthly plans with clear outcomes.
  • Run the marketing function end-to-end.
  • Build autonomous loops that surface competitive landscapes, scientific literature, and industry signals that keep BenchSci ahead of the market.
  • Act as the human layer above every agent workflow, ensuring brand voice, scientific accuracy, and quality.
  • Work closely with Product Marketing, Sales, and Science.
  • Help define the shape of the marketing function as the company evolves.

Benefits

  • A great compensation package that includes BenchSci equity options
  • A robust vacation policy plus an additional vacation day every year
  • Company closures for 14 more days throughout the year
  • Flex time for sick days, personal days, and religious holidays
  • Comprehensive health and dental benefits
  • Annual learning & development budget
  • A one-time home office set-up budget to use upon joining BenchSci
  • An annual lifestyle spending account allowance
  • Generous parental leave benefits with a top-up plan or paid time off options
  • The ability to save for your retirement coupled with a company match!
