About The Position

Job Summary: The main responsibility of the VP, Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (VP HSEQ) is for leading major divisions or functions within the company contributing to overall business strategy and ensuring operational excellence. This role oversees departmental leadership, manages large-scale projects and budgets, drives revenue growth, and aligns their area with company objectives. This role collaborates closely with the executive team, represents the company in high-level negotiations or partnerships, and plays a critical role in organizational leadership, talent development, and risk management. Job Description: Plans, implements, manages and directs corporate health, safety, environmental management strategies, policies, programs and processes to ensure compliance by all Luma operations with all applicable health, safety, environmental FEMA regulations and requirements. Creates and enforces a safety culture throughout the organization that includes our employees, contractors, and the public and cares for our environment. Drives and sustains the embedding of health, safety, and environmental stewardship as core values of the Luma culture. Creates, designs, evaluates, and communicates clear health, safety, and environmental vision. Establishes and maintains HSEQ management programs aimed at continual performance improvement and establish and continuously demonstrate expectations of striving to avoid and minimize incidents and injuries. Provides the strategic HSEQ direction throughout the organization. Motivates and influences all stakeholders to commit to and support the strategic HSEQ direction and vision. Implements consistent policies and procedures across all sites. Evaluates the effectiveness of preventative measures in improving HSEQ metrics. Remains cognizant of statutory and regulatory developments on the Commonwealth and Federal level and their potential impact on Luma business strategies. Provides insight on HSEQ regulatory consequences of proposed actions by Luma and take steps to ensure Luma goals are accomplished. Drives policy in areas such as environmental preservation, siting and sustainability and other extra regulatory and emerging concepts in environmental management. Executes all necessary steps to ensure that Luma meets its commitment to the environment and the absolute safety commitment inherent in our Luma mission and values statement. Leads HSEQ continuous improvement efforts to detect and eliminate potential risks; establish standards and methods for measuring HSEQ performance. Maintains ongoing relationships with state and local environmental stakeholders, FEMA OSHA, EPA and similar environmental and safety related organizations. Responsible for O&M and capital budget within the HSEQ department. Develops and implements strategies to identify, develop, and retain high potential employees for key roles within the department. Works closely with Human Resources to implement and refine company policies and procedures. Follows all policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. Performs major storm restoration work and associated drills as assigned or needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering or related field with 12+ years related work experience in utility-scale project execution including experience in a senior leadership or executive role or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills that exhibit collaborative leadership and the ability to develop partnerships with key stakeholders
  • Highly knowledgeable in technical issues involving health, safety, environmental program areas and serve as the key HSEQ expert and leader
  • A strategist with tactical acumen, knowledge of HSEQ codes and regulations
  • Proven success in creating and implementing HSEQ compliance and improvement plans with an understanding of relevant codes and regulations
  • Proven leadership abilities, including the ability to coach, mentor and develop HSEQ professionals and engage cross functional teams
  • Strong managerial, communication and interpersonal relationship skills with the ability to work with various functional groups
  • Demonstrated skills in establishing and maintaining relationships and influence within all levels of the organization to integrate HSEQ objectives into operational focuses, set strategies for HSEQ improvement and gain support for needed deployment resources
  • Capacity to adapt to changing priorities, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and excel in a complex environment
  • Valid Driver’s license in Puerto Rico

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in is preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior leadership role is preferred
  • Knowledge of HSEQ issues in other industries through job experience or professional associations is preferred
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Chemicals Safety Management (CSM), OSHA Certified Instructor, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHHM), and Certified Environmental Manager (CEM) are preferred
