About The Position

A Career with Purpose The Office of Juvenile Affairs is searching for a Volunteer Service Specialist. If you have experience coordinating volunteer programs and skills to build relationships with community partners, this could be the perfect role for you. Previous experience in public relations or community service is a plus. Basic Purpose Positions in this job family are involved in planning, coordinating and supervising the activities of a volunteer program at a state facility. This includes recruiting, selecting, and assigning volunteers, promoting the program with public relations activities, and developing and maintaining community contacts and support for the program.

Requirements

  • Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in public relations, promotional work, community service or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of the principles and methods of conducting, coordinating and supervising programs related to contribution and promotional campaigns; of the organization, its functions, policies and procedures; of recruitment, selection and placement of volunteers; of media sources; and of spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and sentence and paragraph construction.
  • Ability is required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and to gather, organize and present information, both orally and in writing.
  • Applicants must be willing and able to perform all job-related travel normally associated with this position, possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license at time of appointment.
  • Must be able to pass background check, fingerprints, and drug screening.
  • A trial period of 12 months will be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in public relations or community service is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assists professional staff in determination of need for volunteer services.
  • Attends administrative and rehabilitation therapy, inter-departmental meetings and volunteer organization meetings.
  • Provides information concerning the program at in-service training.
  • Compiles handbooks and directions for volunteers; plans and supervises orientation and training for volunteers.
  • Develops and maintains community contacts to meet volunteer needs and promote community support.
  • Accepts and maintains records of monetary and gift donations and ensures appropriate distribution.
  • Encourages suitable recognition of volunteer contributions made for patient and resident welfare.
  • Speaks to private, civic, church and other organizations to promote the volunteer program.
  • Maintains necessary records, reports and schedules.
