About The Position

The Chaplain Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, and managing the volunteer chaplaincy program within the organization's non-hospice settings. Provides day-to-day management of volunteer chaplain services to ensure the provision of pastoral care to patients, families, and as appropriate, to staff. Oversees the education and training required for support of volunteer chaplain services within the organization. Provides a liaison relationship with the local religious community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in theology, religious studies, pastoral ministry, counseling, or related discipline.
  • Completion of at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or equivalent spiritual care training.
  • Ordination, commissioning, or formal endorsement from a recognized faith community or significant lay ministry experience in spiritual care.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in volunteer management, chaplaincy, pastoral care, or a related field required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to relate to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve spiritual care needs of people without regard to religious affiliation or beliefs
  • Proficiency in computer skills and volunteer management software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, interview, and onboard volunteer chaplains in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Develop and maintain the chaplaincy schedule to ensure adequate coverage for spiritual care needs.
  • Serve as the main point of contact between volunteer chaplains, staff, and leadership.
  • Provide orientation and ongoing training for chaplains on pastoral care best practices, confidentiality, and organizational protocols.
  • Facilitate continuing education opportunities, including workshops, guest speakers, and peer-learning sessions.
  • Offer direct spiritual care to patients, families, and staff, as needed.
  • Establish a caring compassionate and professional relationship with patients, families and loved ones that fosters a non-anxious and non-judgmental presence.
  • Demonstrate active listening skills and supportive, professional behavior at all times, to patients, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Work within the volunteer chaplain scope of practice and refer patients to other healthcare providers when appropriate.
  • Support volunteer chaplains in responding to crises, end-of-life situations, and other sensitive pastoral needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer service hours, assignments, and training completion.
  • Develop program materials such as schedules, guidelines, and communication updates.
  • Evaluate chaplaincy services regularly, seeking feedback from chaplains, staff, and care recipients.
  • Hold regular meetings with volunteer chaplains for prayer, mutual support, and program updates.
  • Provide encouragement, pastoral guidance, and conflict resolution within the chaplain team.
  • Celebrate and recognize the contributions of volunteer chaplains.
