About The Position

The Vocational Support Specialist (VSS) is responsible for providing on/off site training and support for clients during skill development, career planning, and employment retention. As a VSS you will conduct instructional activities related to soft, work, and independent living skills and may be responsible for locating competitive job sites in the community, contacting employers, and conducting job site analyses.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent certificate is required; an associate’s or bachelor's degree in an applicable field from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • Experience in rehabilitation, employment services, case management, social services or other applicable experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Treat clients, stakeholders, and team members with dignity and respect.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with CARF and contractual standards.
  • Remain flexible with work hours, including evenings, weekends, and overnights.
  • Maintain knowledge of disabilities and appropriate assistive technologies/accommodations.
  • Review vocational, medical, and educational information to support career planning and skill development.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized service plans.
  • Coordinate and support work-based learning experiences, including orientation and documentation.
  • Transport clients as needed to meet service plan goals.
  • Track service authorizations, utilization, and complete required reporting.
  • Provide instruction in vocational, social, and independent living skills.
  • Develop strategies and curriculum to support client skill development.
  • Establish community-based training and employment opportunities.
  • Provide on-site and off-site job coaching and individualized supports.
  • Serve as liaison between clients and employers; educate employers on disability inclusion and accommodations.
  • Assist with benefits coordination, transportation training, and long-term employment supports.
  • Respond to workplace crises as needed.
  • Maintain communication with referral sources and community partners.
  • Teach job seeking and retention skills.
  • Build employer relationships and advocate for clients.
  • Promote organizational services through community outreach and professional engagement.
